Premium Lapsang Souchong Loose Leaf Tea

Our Chinese Lapsang Souchong tea is bold, full of flavour, and perfect for smoky tea lovers.

Upon opening the pack you’ll be greeted by a beautiful smoky aroma that's reminiscent of a night around a bonfire. The tightly rolled Chinese black tea leaves, which are smoked over pinewood fires, produce a medium brown liquor that tastes just as smoky as it smells. Be warned, this tea is not for the faint-hearted.

A Smoky flavour with complex notes

Although the initial taste is strong and full of flavour, the smoky notes are not overwhelming. However, they do continue to build and evolve into more complex and intense aromas through the drinking experience. These notes are often likened to peaty whiskies, dark chocolate, smoked paprika, tobacco and dried fruit.

Should I add milk?

Traditionally Lapsang Souchong tea is enjoyed unsweetened and black. That said, a dash of milk will mellow the smoky flavour for a slightly smoother ride. Adding sugar or a dash of honey also complements and tempers the smoky notes. In fact, it can create a beautiful sweet smoky brew that will remind you of those intoxicating flavours you get at a great smoke house.

Pairing it with other teas

Although Lapsang Souchong is great by itself, it also pairs beautifully with English Breakfast Tea and Earl Grey Tea, as many of customers will happily testify. Whichever way you choose to drink it, it needs to be brewed at 100°C for about 3 minutes using freshly drawn water. If you want a smokier hit, then leave it a little longer.

Because Lapsang Souchong is often referred to as the Marmite of teas, we recommend starting with a 50g pouch rather than committing to a larger pack size!
